Six thousand spaces, five hundred of which need a disc
Parking works differently here from the rest of the coast: the tourist office lists 6,000 spaces and general free parking. That is true, with one reservation the same page states plainly — 500 of those spaces are blue-zone bays and require a disc, sold at the tourist office.
The nuance looks minor. It is not, for anyone leaving a car for four hours on a randomly chosen bay. Writing that everything is free and unlimited would be wrong, and that is exactly the sort of approximation that ends in a fine for a passenger.
The rest of the stock suits chauffeur work well: more than 150 accessible bays sized 3.30 m by 5 m, and full geo-referencing. Six car parks are named by the office — Soustelle, Beguier, Robinson, Canardière, Mermoz and Chantier Naval. Those are landmarks, and they beat a district name every time.
The massif closes by the day, by order
This is what really separates this destination from the rest of the western coast. The Estérel-Tanneron massif bordering it falls under a prefectural fire-protection regime. The order of 5 July 2018 allows entry by people, vehicle traffic and parking to be restricted in sensitive areas; the general framework was renewed by an order of 13 May 2025.
In practice the risk level is assessed every day, massif by massif, on a four-colour scale, and the map is published daily. An excursion planned weeks ahead can therefore be banned on the morning itself, without notice and without appeal.
The working rule is simple: check the day’s map before leaving, and hold a coastal fallback. A driver who discovers the closure at the foot of the mountain road has already lost his passenger’s morning.
Thirty-five minutes that are not driven the same at every hour
Thirty-five kilometres, thirty-five minutes quoted: close to a kilometre a minute, which assumes a clear motorway. At 8 am and at 6 pm the same distance behaves differently, and the western approaches of the department load up exactly when the offices empty.
What that shift never changes is the amount. The fare, by sedan as by van, is confirmed when you book. A detour, a diversion or a jam leaves it intact.
Two things are left for you to prepare: the real meeting time, set by the event rather than by the theoretical driving time, and the name of the car park or venue on arrival. With those two, the pick-up point is agreed before the car moves.
