Eight metres in the village, two metres underground
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat has written its limits down, in an eighteen-page order stamped by the prefecture. That is rare, and it saves everyone from guessing.
In the village area — boulevard de la Libération, place Georges Clemenceau, place du Centenaire, avenue Jean Mermoz, avenue de la Puncia, chemin de Saint-Hospice, avenue Claude Vignon, allée Mireille Delfino, avenue des Caroubiers, avenue des Fleurs — vehicles over 8 metres long are banned. A passenger van sits under that limit. What stops it is elsewhere: four car parks, the Centenaire, the covered Centenaire, Cros dei Pin and the Lido, are closed to vehicles over 2 metres high.
Three more figures complete the picture. Gross weight is capped at 19 tonnes across the whole commune, at 3.5 tonnes on avenue Claude Vignon and avenue Honoré Sauvan, and at 2.5 tonnes on the promenade Maurice Rouvier. Speed is 30 kph across the commune and 10 kph in every public car park and on the port roads. Finally, the impasse Ephrussi de Rothschild is closed to buses and to vehicles wider than 2.5 metres.
The drop-off bays are written down, counted and timed
The same order marks stopping bays on the ground and gives each one a limit. Avenue Denis Séméria, opposite number 1: 15 minutes, 9 am to 8 pm. Place du Centenaire, southern bypass lane: 30 minutes, 11 am to 6 am. Avenue Jean Mermoz, at number 58: 30 minutes, same hours.
Add the permanent one-way sections — chemin de Passable, chemin du Roy, avenue Claude Vignon, avenue de la Puncia — and you get the real local rule: you do not turn around. The order in which addresses are visited during a day is not a comfort detail, it is what sets the duration.
Chemin de Saint-Hospice closes all summer
From 1 May to 30 September, between 10 am and 7 pm, the road is closed between avenue Jean Mermoz and place des Chevaliers de Malte to every vehicle except permit holders, police, emergency services and cemetery visitors. Deliveries pass between 9 am and 11 am.
For five months of the year, an address beyond that point cannot be served by car between 10 am and 7 pm. That is planned, not improvised. The public landmark to give remains the port bus terminus, served by route 15 from Promenade des Arts.
