The Chambon dam is the only junction
The tourist office describes two possible approaches and one shared point. From Grenoble you leave the motorway at exit number 8, Vizille, follow the RD1091 towards Briançon through Le Bourg d’Oisans, and at the Chambon dam you turn right to climb the D213. From Briançon or Italy you follow the same RD1091 the other way, and at the same dam you turn left.
In other words, whichever side you come from, the resort is entered at the dam. It is a physical, public landmark that cannot be confused with anything else, which a driver uses to place himself and to give a reliable arrival time. Everything before it is valley. Everything after it is mountain.
Thirty free minutes, from 8.00 to 19.00
The resort charges for parking from 1 December to 30 April and from 15 June to 31 August, between 8.00 and 19.00, with rates set by zone. The first thirty minutes are free.
That free window does not apply to a handful of dedicated bays: it applies to the charged parking as a whole. It is a genuine difference from resorts that create a few short-stay spaces. Here the window follows the vehicle, not the space, and an ordinary drop-off with luggage fits inside the half hour.
Two structures are named by the resort: Les Glaciers, enclosed, at the resort entrance, and the covered, staffed underground car park at place de Venosc. No height limit is published for the second.
The drop-off window, seen from the job
The detail that separates a calm arrival from a tense one is the clock. Before 8.00 and after 19.00 parking is not charged and the drop-off runs without counting. Between those hours the free half hour starts on arrival, including while passengers hunt for a key.
Which is why bags come out first and why the driver finds the entrance to the structure before stopping. The fare itself does not follow that clock: it is confirmed to you in writing before departure, tolls and fuel included, and it does not move afterwards.
