Chauffeur service

Chauffeur service to San Remo: crossing the border

San Remo is 60 km from Nice airport, about 55 minutes by motorway. Tolls and fuel are included, and the fare agreed at booking does not move. France reinstated checks at its internal border with Italy from 1 May to 31 October 2026, so every passenger keeps identity papers to hand.

ID on you, not in the boot

This is the first practical point of any run into Liguria, and it carries a date. France notified the European Commission of the temporary reinstatement of checks at all its internal borders, by land, air and sea, including the border with Italy, for the period 1 May to 31 October 2026.

The consequence fits in a sentence: an identity check at the Ventimiglia crossing is lawful and possible. A card packed in a case, in the boot, under four other bags, is no use. The driver says so before departure, and that detail alone saves a quarter of an hour standing still.

The marina is entered through a barrier

The idea that a car parks beside the pontoons is wrong. The marina operator controls access to its car park by licence plate recognition, hourly ticketing, or a card issued by staff to port customers. You enter under a barrier and pay before leaving.

Its parking regulations add clear limits: no entry for vehicles taller than the height posted at the entrances, no camper vans, trailers or caravans, authorisation required above 3.5 tonnes, and a fifteen-day maximum stay without authorisation. A sedan and a transfer van pass without difficulty; anything larger is arranged in advance.

The address is public and easy to give a guest: via Del Castillo 17. The marina takes vessels up to 90 metres.

What to settle before leaving

Three things. Identity papers for each passenger, carried on the person. The precise drop-off address, because the centre is protected by camera-controlled access points. And the day of the week: on Fridays the Ventimiglia market draws dense morning traffic, with selling hours that local press, quoting the mayoral order, places between 8.00 and 16.00 in winter and 8.00 and 17.00 in summer.

What we do not publish: the official list of filtered access points in the centre and their hours. The municipal portal returns an access error from France, so we have not read the order. A list of streets copied from a news article is not something on which a journey is committed.

Before you arrive

Your questions.

Is a passport or an identity card needed at the Ventimiglia crossing?

A valid identity document, carried on the person. France notified the European Commission of the temporary reinstatement of checks at all its internal borders, Italy included, from 1 May to 31 October 2026. A check at the crossing is therefore lawful and possible.

Can a car stop freely in front of the marina pontoons?

No. The marina operator controls entry to its car park by licence plate recognition, hourly ticket, or a card issued by staff to port customers. You pass a barrier, take a ticket, and pay before leaving.

Will a transfer van fit the marina car park?

A sedan and a standard van both fit. The operator regulations bar vehicles taller than the limit posted at the entrances, along with camper vans, trailers and caravans, and require authorisation above 3.5 tonnes. Maximum stay without authorisation is fifteen days.

Does the Friday market at Ventimiglia affect the drive?

It draws heavy morning traffic to the border. Local press, quoting a mayoral order of November 2025, gives selling hours of 8.00 to 16.00 from 1 October to 31 March, and 8.00 to 17.00 from 1 April to 30 September. A Friday morning run is planned with extra margin.

Where does the driver drop off in the town centre?

Outside the camera-controlled pedestrian areas. The exact list of filtered access points and their hours is documented only by local press, since the municipal portal is unreachable from France. We therefore publish no list of streets.
